The problem: Large online marketplace for buying, selling, and sharing expertise in the form of online classes and video podcasts, Podclass.com has been steadily growing—and so has the server usage and the amount of data to be stored. Eventually, direct and indirect costs of data center and system administration began negatively impact profitability of the company. To meet computing and storage demands, Podclass had to find scalable and cost-effective computing and storage solution.
The solution: The company turned to Akelios, Cloud Computing consultant. After analysis of Podclass’s architecture and application elements, Akelios recommended an architecture solution driven by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Solution components utilized Amazon EC2 for hosting media content server and podclass.com classes, Elastic Block Storage for storing media content and Web site content, and Amazon S3 for storing application instance images.
The result: Podclass has successfully integrated and migrated podclass.com infrastructure to AWS. As result, the social network now enjoys reliability, reduced down-time, as well as automated scaling addressing occasional traffic spikes. Additionally, Podclass saves approximately 30 percent on data center costs annually, while offering a scalable platform to facilitate further growth of the company.
